You’re Moving to Rural Ontario — Now What?

0

So you’re considering making a move to somewhere remote. You might feel prepared, but there are a lot of things to consider before making this move. Just remember that moving to a remote location is a great idea. You can get away from noise, traffic, and the hustle bustle of cities and suburban areas.

Rural Ontario is a great location to do this. Take these tips into consideration when looking into your possible move to the country!

Remember that you aren’t alone

Rural Canada is home to more than 6 million people. With that being said, you aren’t the only one taking this leap. Before you head into any unknown remote area, remember that it doesn’t have to be unknown. There are tons of blogs out there discussing the pros and cons of rural living. This can give you some insight on what to expect.

There is something about going off the grid that humans don’t get enough of in this day and age. There are so many over-developed suburbs and cities. Getting away feels nice. Everyone should try living in a remote location once in their life for at least a little while! And Ontario is a great place to do it because of the beautiful farmland and gorgeous scenery.

Decide what land works for you

Ontario is home to a lot of land. You just have to make a choice on where you want to buy property. You might want to live in an area that has some homes nearby, just for comfort. You also might want to go all out and live on acreage. Either way, there are tons of options that you should go look at before making a decision.

One good idea is to rent an Airbnb in rural Ontario (or at least a hotel room) for a weekend to see what it is all about. This can give you a sense of rural living that you might not have had in the exact area yet.

Figure out what you need in a remote area

There are a lot of aspects of life that are way more accessible in cities and suburban areas, such as wifi. But you won’t be off the grid: there are providers that offer unlimited rural internet in Ontario. Companies provide services that expand to remote Ontario, which is a huge win for you. Other things to consider are plumbing, heat, and other necessities that some old houses need help with.

If you are purchasing an extremely old house, these are things you need to look into before making a big move. You want to have all the necessities sorted out before moving to a location that feels like it’s out in the middle of nowhere!

Map out the closest gas stations, grocery stores, etc.

Research the neighborhood before moving. Where will you get gas and groceries? How often will you have to head to the city to stock up on things you can’t find in your rural location? These are things to consider before moving.

Other necessities to consider are doctors, hospitals, and airports. You will eventually need to plan out a trip and know your nearest airport. You also might need to check in with a doctor every once in awhile. Figure this out as soon as you decide to move! You don’t want to move in and realize you don’t know where the nearest hospital or doctor is.

Remember to do your research and enjoy the journey of moving to rural Ontario!
